In Puerto Madryn we went to a National Park called the Valdes Peninsula.
While driving through the park we saw Guanacos. Guanacos are like tall llamas. They’re kind of red and brown and live in small herds. Their tales have a curve to them.
We went to the park to see Magellanic Penguins. They live in burrows. The burrows were on the hillside and we were really close, we were only 5 feet away. The penguins were one to two feet tall and they were making weird noises when we were there.
We also saw elephant seals. They live in colonies. In a colony there is one male and a bunch of females. A female weighs 800 kilograms while a male weights 4000 kilograms. The males have big trunks but the females don’t. When we saw them they were sleeping. The male jiggled when he moved. Their mating season is in August but when we saw them they were just lying around
In the town I bought a souvenir stuffed animal penguin because penguins are my favorite.

Thanks for your great update. I had no idea that South America has penquins… and now you tell me that live in burrows! I’m so glad that you are keeping us updated on what you are seeing!
Syd, your stories of what you are doing are so descriptive. I could see the penguin burrows and the jiggling fat on the elephant seal. Good job telling us about your adventure.
Penguins are Sally’s favorite animal! Living in burrows! I never knew that – cool! And being able to get that close was REALLY cool!
You’re living the dream, Syd! Enjoy –
