Right now we’re in Sucre, Bolivia. Sucre is one of the capitals (the other is La Paz) of Bolivia. It’s an amazing and fairly laid back city, with lots of pretty old churches.
Yesterday was Syd’s birthday and we had a really fun day. The first thing we did was watch a parade for the Dia Del Mar. This represents the loss of the Bolivian coast to the Chileans and it was basically a huge military parade. The bands were really good and I almost cried because there were definitely at least as many women soldiers as there were men, which I am all for. There were kids that marched past and Air Force, navy (even though they no longer have a coast), and a bunch of other military branches. It was super fun to watch, but it was more than forty five minutes long so after that we kept moving through town.
After that, we wandered around the city and went to the Dinosaur Park. There are lots of dinosaur fossils near the city so the town has lots of dinosaur themed things, including the park. The main feature of the dinosaur park is an enormous Brachiosaurus with a slide down its head and a slide down its back. The tail slide is much faster and starts almost straight down. It’s super scary but also exhilarating at the same time. We went down it a bunch and then met another overlanding Danish family. We talked for a while and ate some Cotton Candy. After that, Syd and I went to play with their nine year old and their five year old. We ran around, played tag, hide and seek, and explored throughout the park. We had a really fun time and were very sad when they had to leave.
After they left we went to have enormous ice creams. We played really hard and it was Syd’s birthday, so we were allowed to get whatever we wanted. Syd and I both really like coffee ice cream, so Syd got a huge cup of it, and I got a mocha frappe. We ate them on a bench and then headed home. We only went home at five-ish because we knew we were going to get stuck inside for the next day. This was because of the census, a government population count which Baba will explain in one of his posts. Anyways, so far Sucre has been really fun and I’m excited to see what we do tomorrow when we can leave the house again.

I look forward to your posts. Your descriptions are interesting and often thought provoking. You are learning so much through personal experiences and that is so valuable. And it is certainly more fun than just reading information in a book!
Audrey, again you impressed me with your thorough descriptions of your adventure. I saw a few videos of you all going down that slide and thought, “What fun!.” Your reaction to the Bolivian women in the military also showed that you are really thinking about your experience there. We see many pictures of you all eating and you covered well the reasons behind the many posts. Keep up the good writing. Your blog is my first stop every morning, especially since you are several hours ahead of us here in Arizona.
You are such a descriptive writer, Audrey, that I can see and feel and experience what you are doing! Thanks for taking me along!
Miss you Audrey hope you’re having fun!
