We went to an estancia called Panagea Ranch. It only had electricity between 7:45 and 10:00 PM but that made it even better because it was darker. There were 11 people there. Here is a list of people at the ranch: Camilla, Stuart, Brian, Sara, Susie, Tarek, and Lorenzo. And us! Jaun, Bilinga, Darma, and Abril lived and worked on the ranch.
We learned how to saddle and ride the horses, gaucho style. We learned how to put the saddles and bridles on the horses. Once we got on our horses, we herded sheep. We dewormed and weaned the sheep. We rode the horses and herded cows the next day. The next thing we did we vaccinated the calf’s. We herded sheep and dewormed them and gave them shots. It was hard to grab them. We had to grab them because otherwise they would run away while we gave them shots.
There were other vegetarian visitors at the ranch so there was good vegetarian food. There was good vegetable stew and rice. Once we had lentils. On the first day Jaun gave Audrey and I ice cream but none of the grown ups were supposed to know.

Syd, your worming syringe looks just like the syringe that we use to squirt dewormer medicine down the horses’ throats. I’m also pleased to see that you were able to arrange some ice cream.
Where were all those other people from? Were they touristas as well? It looks like you’ve been on a real working vacation for parts of your trip. You’re seeing what some people do for a living in other parts of the world! Keep having fun, and keep these wonderful reports coming – we’re enjoying them!
This sounds like a fun adventure for you…staying at the estancia, learning how to work the horses, actually doing ranch work and ice cream!
