Iguaçu Falls

About a week ago we went to Iguaçu falls in Foz Do Iguaçu in the pouring rain. It rained almost the entire time we were at the falls, until we were getting ready to leave. When we got there, we decided to go on a boat ride to the falls, which was very fun, but also had a few consequences.

Overview of the boat

To get to the boat ride, we had to go in a Safari car, and then walk a ways to reach the dock. We saw people coming off of the ride soaking wet and we knew we were in for it. I then decided to take off my raincoat because I knew it wouldn’t be any use. We got on the boat with maybe 15 other people and took off. The boat had to go extremely fast to make any headway against the current, so the feeling of the rain was like pop rocks popping on my face. The current made small waves and when we jumped over them, we hit the water hard, a feeling I bet is similar to professional skateboarding. I was closing my eyes, so as not to get any rain in them when we turned to face the falls.

Soaked

This caught me off balance because the boat suddenly tilted almost vertically to get towards the falls. This made Baba, who was sitting on the right edge of the boat, almost level with the water, and Mama, sitting on the other edge, at least five feet above it. On the way downriver to the dock, the boat driver steered us really close to a waterfall so if we weren’t already wet inside and out, we became so. After the ride we came out soaked and as I suspected our raincoats did not help at all.

We then went to the restaurant to have lunch which was pretty embarrassing because everyone else there was dry and wearing very fancy clothes. After that we went to the waterfall viewing point and got re-soaked by the mist from the falls. We also went on a 1 1/2 km walk from a bus stop back to the falls. Although my dad said we built a lot of character being soaked all day, I hope I never have to wear wet underwear for that long again.

  1. I’m not a fan of wet underwear either! 😂 I don’t think I would have enjoyed that outing very much. But, at the same time, I wouldn’t want to miss it either.

  2. Great description, Audrey. You made me feel like I was along in the boat. I really laughed at your statement about not wanting wet underwear that long again.

  3. Looks like a LOT of fast, dirty water! Looks like the drought has eased a bit. Hopefully you won’t have another soaking adventure like this one the rest of the trip! Thanks for another great review!
