Christmas Vacation

We stayed in Madariaga for a week at Christmas this year. Madariaga is on the coast of Argentina, about smack dab in the middle. It’s a small town a half an hour drive from the beach, away from the loud noises of Pinamar.

The first few days were spent swimming at the playa and shopping for gifts. I had previously gotten everyone their gifts, but had fun walking around with the others. We went wave jumping which scares my mom, but my dad lets me go way out by myself.

On Christmas Eve, we went for a short hike through the nearby woods and came home to play Mario Kart. We’ve recently started playing the new ones that came out a few weeks ago. They are super fun and we love playing together, I’ve even tied with Baba once or twice.

Mama and Baba made sugar and Austrian jam cookies, which were delicious. After dinner had been made, we put out our gifts under our taped ribbon tree and went to my room to wait for Santa. We made paper snowflake ornaments and drank kids champagne. After a few minutes Baba went out to change to Austrian music and said that Santa had arrived!!!

We went out to find new presents under the tree. We got mate cups and mate. Mate is an Argentinian tea drunk with a special filter straw and out of a gourd cup which Argentinians love and make friendships with. We got many wonderful things. Syd got a new fishing rod, Mama got a warm scarf, Baba got a new wallet, I got some soothing lotion and a watch, and we all had fun giving and getting. The next day (Christmas Day) we went for another hike on the super windy beach and played more Mario Kart.

Although Christmas away from home was a bit rough, without friends, a Christmas Tree, cookies, or Mac n Cheese Balls from Trader Joe’s, our Christmas was super amazing and I loved it anyway.
