Around La Paz

La Paz is the capital of Bolivia. We stayed there 3 nights.  To get around there are cable cars.  They look very Austrian and are made by an Austrian company.  They go right over houses and one line goes right down a street.  There are many colored lines.  There is even a coffee line.

La Paz is a nice and big city.  It is the capital so there are a lot of government buildings there.  We got to see the guard in front of a building switch shifts.

Yesterday we went to a history museum.  It was about Bolivian history.  It talked about weaving and dyeing yarn.  There was also a room with lots of native clothing. After that we went to a room full of pottery.  Then we looked through a mining and metals room.

Yesterday we went to a fancy lunch place, like, really fancy.  We got three courses.  First I got an appetizer of soup with edible flowers.  Then I got a quinoa dish with pumpkin, then I got a desert of watermelon and watermelon gelatin.

Then we went to market and some stores including a camping store with good pocket knives. We did not need anything but I liked looking. The market had llama t-shirts that had stuff like “llamaha motorbikes” and “no probllama”, we did not buy any though .  There was a shirt that said “this is Bolivia!” and had a picture of a Bolivian lady kicking a Spanish soldier off a cliff.

  1. Sydney, I am just amazed at all the varied things that you are experiencing on this trip. I hope that you either have an extremely good memory or are writing or otherwise recording a lot of these experiences. You could write a book about all that you have seen! Keep enjoying your trip and try to keep as much as you can. Those memories will last a lifetime!

  2. I love your food selections! Maybe you could plant some edible flowers when you get home and make your own fun and fancy dinners! This city sure has a lot of colorful places to visit. I would enjoy seeing it in person! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures!

  3. Fun stuff, and really cool to see how other people and cultures live day to day. And it’s neat to see how things overlap from country to country – cell phones, internet, modern conveniences, etc. Who know – maybe someone there will see what you’re wearing and say “I want one, too”, and you’ll start a trend!
    Keep those great reports coming!

  4. What a colorful city! I liked the umbrellas hanging over the street. You are so lucky to visit the cities like LaPaz that many of us will not have the chance to visit. Thanks for such good descriptions and just the right pictures!
