Adelomelon brasilianum

Adelomelon brasilianum

A few weeks ago we went to the beach to look at the Tavvishi.  The Tavvishi is the ship that our car was on.  Our car was on the ship because we were shipping it to South America.  We saw something way more interesting though.

They were snail eggs.  They belong to a sea snail named Adelomelon brasilianum.  The egg capsules can contain more than a dozen eggs.  The capsules contain a liquid that is the food source of the eggs.  Those that get washed up on the beach don’t live.  Two to five percent live and get washed back to sea.  Some capsules sink and some float.  The capsules are often eaten by birds.  We saw some dry and cracked eggs.

We then went to the hand in the sand.  The hand in the sand is a very famous piece of art in Punta del Este. It is a sculpture of a hand half buried in the sand.

I found most of my information on Atlas Obscura.  I learned more on featuredcreature.com.
