A couple of days ago we went to Torres del Paine National Park. Torres del Paine has large pointy mountains. Torres del Paine has lots of wildlife. The park is home to pumas, heumul, skunks, condors, and more. Sadly we didn’t see any pumas.
We did see a couple of condors. Condors are big birds that live in mountains. Up in the mountains it was windy. At one viewpoint there were really strong gusts and I had to plant my feet into the ground so that I did not blow over. When we went on our hike we saw two icebergs. The wind was so strong when I jumped it blew me backwards. The next time we went one iceburg was gone. The mountains had different types of granite. I read a sign and you could see the layers.
Now we are in El Calafate. We had to cross the border from Chile into Argentina which is where el Calafate is. We went to a glacier called Perito Moreno. First we went to a museum. Did you know there is a fly that is born on a glacier and never leaves it? The fly has glycol in its blood. When we saw the glacier it was really big. Every once in a while you would see some ice fall off. It is called calving when the ice falls off and becomes an iceberg!

Your writings are always so interesting, Syd! I never knew about the glacier flies; I wonder why they live there.
Hey, seeing a puma might have been cool – but might have been scary! I’ve never seen a glacier – or even an iceberg. I wonder how old the ice is in that glacier? And those mountains – I think of mountains as smoothed by the wind and the weather, but those were spectacular! Keep up the great reports!
Syd, you do a great job of bringing your experiences into our lives. I would have liked to see a picture of a Condor. They are such large and majestic birds. You just might have to write a book about all of your adventures. You are certainly making many memories.
