I already did a top ten for South America and I thought it went fairly well. I enjoyed doing it so much that I decided to do a similar thing for Central America. We didn’t spend as much time in Central America as we did in South America, so this will only be a top five, but we did do so many cool and interesting things.
My fifth favorite thing we did in Central America was the Belize Zoo. I mostly enjoyed this place for the story that came with going there. I was walking on the zoo path ahead of my parents, and got to the jaguar exhibit. I started reading the sign about the orphaned jaguar. I finished reading it and turned. All of a sudden the jaguar jumped at me and growled. The fence kept me alive but I still have nightmares about jaguar teeth.
My fourth favorite thing we did in Central America was going to an underground Cenote. A Cenote is a naturally formed pool that you can find many of in Mexico. We went down the stairs into the cenote. It was a little creepy because I was afraid of any and all large worm-like creatures that could be lurking in the deep water. After a while though, I got used to it and actually had a lot of fun swimming around in the cave.
My third favorite thing we did in Central America was go to The Albania Cafe. This was a cafe that also had a hedge Mae, zip lining, and the most fun, a rainbow slide. We did the maze, which Syd got out first. We then did the zip line, which was lots of fun as well. After that, we weren’t sure if there was anything else to do, but Syd and I decided to do the rainbow slide. You get an inner tube and then shoot down the slide. It was so fast and basically our equivalent to sledding. It was so fun and scary.
My second favorite thing we did in Central America was going to the Mayan ruin Chichen Itza. We got to walk around the ruins and see tons of cool buildings. My favorite was seeing the huge ball court the Mayans played games in. The goal of the game was to get the ball through a stone hoop. The loser of the game was sacrificed, so although it was a great honor to play, there was a good incentive to win. It was super cool to see this huge metropolis.
My favorite thing we did in Central America was zip lining in Costa Rica. We got to go through the trees and rappel and do all this cool stuff. They had at least 15 zip lines that you got to go on. We also got to climb up the inside of a tree. There was a really long zip line that was super fun and fast, which was my favorite part. I know it made Mama a little bit scared, but it was so fun.
That concludes my top five things we did in Central America. Even though we only spent about a month in Central America, we got to do SO many fun and exciting things. I really want to come back to Central America and see some of the things we missed. I also hope this list gives you an image or some ideas of what awesome things you can do in Central America.
